A certification that grades how efficiently a power supply converts wall AC into usable DC, with tiers from Bronze up to Titanium.
The 80 PLUS rating is a voluntary certification that measures how efficiently a power supply unit converts incoming AC mains power into the DC power your components use, with the rest lost as heat. The tiers, from 80 PLUS through Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Titanium, each guarantee higher efficiency across a range of load levels. For a continuously running mining PC, a higher tier wastes less electricity and produces less heat, which keeps the PSU cooler and quieter. Gold is widely regarded as the value sweet spot for home mining builds, balancing efficiency against price. The rating only certifies efficiency, however, not build quality, so always pair it with a reputable brand.
